The Gobbo Group at the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Trieste (Italy) is looking for candidates for 2 postdoctoral positions. The successful candidate will hold (or be working towards) a PhD in Chemistry or Materials Science (or equivalent professional qualification/experience) with at least 3 publications in international peer reviewed journals, and will be a motivated and enthusiastic researcher, with excellent organisational and communication skills.
We welcome applications from all members of the scientific community, and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBTQIA+ and BAME communities, to apply.
The deadline for applying is September 30th, 2023 for both positions.
Project 1: 3D-L-INKED

The project, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, aims to fabricate precise, patient-specific tissue patches for the treatment of congenital diaphragmatic hernia and a variety of other muscular congenital defects. To achieve this ambitious and cross-disciplinary objective the project is based on a collaboration between the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Trieste, the Department of Engineering of the University of Padua, and the Padua Institute for Paediatric Research Città della Speranza.
Within this cross-disciplinary project the role of the Gobbo Group is to develop a novel biocompatible injectable hydrogel that can cleave with light. This objective relies on the synthesis of new functional monomers and polymers.

Deadline for application: September 30th, 2023
Project 2: SAMBA

The project, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, aims to explore a chemical bottom-up approach to the preparation of innovative multifunctional materials spanning in dimensions across the mesoscale (20 nm – 100 μm) and able to selectively localise the target bacteria strain, signal their presence, and locally release the antibiotic. To achieve this ambitious and crossdisciplinary objective the project is based on a collaboration between the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Trieste, the Department of Chemistry of the University of Parma, and the Department of Biotechnologies and Biosciences of the University of Milano-Bicocca.
Within this cross-disciplinary project, the Gobbo Group will work in collaboration with the Tecilla Group towards the development of novel functional polymeric nanomaterials using reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer polymerisation – polymerisation-induced self-assembly (RAFT-PISA).
